NFAS Coaching

Ladies and Gents, you may be aware that the trainers have been working very hard to bring the coaching system within the society up to date. I am pleased to announce that our work has now been completed and fundamental changes within the system are now ready for release. These changes affect the full scope of coaching and I encourage you all to read and understand the different systems now in place. Major changes effecting the qualification to become a coach and new requirement standards to become a coach trainer and Assistant coach are now in place.

I also request that when renewing your coaching card you follow the procedure correctly. I cannot issue a new card unless you supply proof of a new CRB check, i.e. a disclosure number, date of the check and a summary of your coaching activity. I have a number of renewals I have not been able to process to date because of these problems.

PLEASE NOTE: As of the 1st July 2010 all CRB checks will be initiated by me. This process can take some time, up to six weeks so it is advised that renewals are sent in early.

Renewals checks will be free of charge from this date. Initial checks for coaching courses will be covered in the course fee currently £90.00

Assistant coach initial checks will be £15

I will issue an up to date list of coaches every other newsletter with renewal dates highlighted. I will not chase individuals; it will be your responsibility to renew. Any certificate which is more than three months out of date will be removed from the list and an e-mail sent to the coaches club to inform them of this fact. I hope you appreciate that in our current climate we cannot allow uncertified coaching to take place.

New Requirement Standards

NFAS Assistant Coaches

AIM

The purpose of the assistant level is to provide a stepping stone on the coaching ladder. It is aimed at those individuals who wish to teach beginners at club level and whom do not meet the requirements to become a full NFAS coach or do not wish to follow the more academic system of coaching and are just happy to work at club under an official coach. What the NFAS is trying to achieve is a system where the practice of helping out becomes a more recognised position.

Application Requirements

Prior to any NFAS Assistant coach achieving full status they must demonstrate that they have meet the required standards.

The individual club coach will be responsible for the training and instruction of the trainee assistant.

When the club coach is confident of achievement they are to apply to an external coach or trainer from another club to carry out a standardisation check.

Once both club coach and independent assessor is satisfied with the candidate’s achievement both are to complete the NFAS Assistant Coach Assessment sheet (NFAS25).

This form and the club coach’s recommendation (statement of suitability) are to be forwarded to the NFAS Coaching Coordinator for registration.

Proficiency badges and certificate of achievement will be returned to the individual Assistant Coach.
